A Mexican Violet ear hummingbird showed up on my deck today. Piece is turned, carved and colored by Derek Weidman of Philadelphia, Pa. 12 inches (30.48 cm) high x 10 inches (25.4cm) wide. Orange daylillies on the wing provide nourishment. Derek achieved part of texture on body by going against the grain of unknown wood lightly with a chainsaw. My neighbor and master turner Lowell Converse added the stand.
