Retired from a career in forestry and law enforcement. Started turning in 2015.
I've always thought I didn't have a creative bone in my body. Can't draw, can't do creative writing, can't sing, can't play music, etc. I did excel in my career endeavors however. Then about 2003, I started woodworking. Taught myself furniture and cabinet making. Built stuff mainly from plans found in magazines. Then started designing my own furniture. Then about 2015 I bought a lathe. Totally different skillset than woodworking. In woodworking about 99% of your cuts are straight lines. In woodturning, about 99% of your cuts are curves. Been studying and practicing shape and form ever since. Hasn't come easy, but it is now an obsession. Some times I surprise myself.
